One of the highlights of what I do at Families Outreach is checking the mail.  I gladly concede that at most times, a trip to the mailbox is a rather mundane task that should not be the highlight of anyone’s day.  And, on many days, it’s that way for me too, but – not everyday. On some days, it’s the most exciting part of my job.

On some days, my trip down the hall to my mailbox results in having new grant applications from families answering the call to adopt.  It’s always awesome to see people seeking to care for the fatherless, and to get a little glimpse of the journey they’re on.  It’s even better when we’re able to come along side them and help them a bit in the process.

This past week has been even better as we’ve received three new applications for grants.  That is great in and of itself.  It’s a sign that the adoption movement is gaining momentum and progressing and that Families Outreach is staying on task of aiding adoptions.  But, what was great about these three applications is that they were all from people who are members of churches of some our previous grant families.

One of the things that I’ve learned is that we need to desire that our churches create a culture of adoption.  That is, adoption becomes imbedded in the DNA of the church – that it becomes part of who they are, not just a thing that they do.  Sometimes it just takes that first pioneering family in the church to get the ball rolling, and then others will follow.

I am greatly encouraged to get these new batch of applications in my mailbox with familiar church names and pastor recommendations.  I hope to see many more, as new families see these, being obedient, and answer the call to adopt.  And, I will continue to get excited when I go check my mailbox.
