Families Outreach has a team of six men setting out tomorrow on a trip across the globe in a week. Our director Jon and five others are heading out on a double vision trip to Ethiopia and China. Ok maybe not all the way across the globe, but close enough! They will be visiting potential sites for our Orphan Care Program to begin supporting in Addis Abba and Beijing.
In August of 2012, we took our first mission team to Alex’s House Orphanage in Haiti. Our team of 15 worked closely with Bill Howard, the orphanage founder and director, during our week of construction. Bill is a wise man of the Lord. He left the church he was pastoring in South Carolina to devote his time to serving the street children of Haiti. Our time with Bill brought many lessons and new insights; however, one has stuck more vividly than any other- “you must be fluid”.
Bill explained the necessity of being fluid during our first evening devotional. As a seasoned missionary, I had “you must be flexible” practically tattooed on my forehead. read more

Here is the story of one forever family from Knoxville, TN: read more
Yesterday was Orphan Sunday- a day set aside during Orphan Awareness Month to come together with one voice for the fatherless. As described by Jedd Medefind, President of the Christian Alliance for Orphans, “Orphan Sunday isn’t just a cause. It’s about the blaze Christians create as they see and reflect God’s heart for the fatherless. When we live out what James calls ‘pure religion’ through adoption, foster care and global orphan initiatives, the world sees the Gospel made visible like nothing else.” read more
In February, my church, The Journey Campus of Central Baptist Church, had a mobilization area called “Do Something Now” during our sermon series over the book of James. The display focused heavily on adoption and orphan care as James 1:27 was a central passage during one of the week’s sermons. read more
